Administrative records, 1969-1971.

This series consists of correspondence, memoranda, newspaper clippings, journal articles, and minutes of meetings. These materials document the establishment, activities, findings, and recommendations of the Juvenile Correctional Study Committee and its members. The records document the problem of juvenile delinquency in Alabama and the work of the state's juvenile industrial schools. Included is information concerning the desegregation of the boys industrial schools in 1970. Among the many recommendations made by the committee was one for a separate, single state department or agency to oversee programs for the rehabilitation of delinquent children and youth. The Juvenile Correctional Study Committee occasionally worked with members of the Alabama Youth Committee (which eventually became the State Advisory Committee on Juvenile Planning) while engaging in this study.
